TRANSLATION: Bubbling Spring

LOCATION: On the sole of the foot, between the second and third metatarsal bones, approximately one third of the distance between the base of the second toe and the heel, in a depression formed when the foot is plantar flexed.
NEEDLE INSERTION: 90° insertion
NEEDLE DEPTH: 0.5-1.0 cun

Ran Gu 然谷 (KD 2)

TRANSLATION: Burning (Blazing) Valley
TYPE: Ying-spring, Fire
LOCATION: Anterior and inferior to the medial malleolus, in the depression on the lower border of the tuberosity of the navicular bone
NEEDLE INSERTION: 90° insertion
NEEDLE DEPTH: 0.5-1.0 cun

Tai Xi 太谿 (KD 3)

TRANSLATION: Supreme Stream; Great Creek; Great Stream
TYPE: Yuan-source, Shu-stream, Earth
LOCATION: In the depression between the medial malleolus and Achilles tendon, level with the tip of the medial malleolus
NEEDLE INSERTION: a) 90° insertion, b) join with UB 60
NEEDLE DEPTH: a) 0.5-1.0 cun, b) 0.5-1.0 cun

Da Zhong 大鐘 (KD 4)

TRANSLATION: Great Bell; Big Goblet; Large Bell
TYPE: Luo-connecting
LOCATION: Approximately .5 cun posterior to the midpoint of the line drawn between KD 3 and KD 5, on the anterior border of the Achilles tendon
NEEDLE INSERTION: 70° anterior insertion
NEEDLE DEPTH: 0.5 cun

Shui Quan 水泉 (KD 5)

TRANSLATION: Water Spring
TYPE: Xi-cleft
LOCATION: 1 cun directly below KD 3, in the depression anterior and superior to the medial side of the calcaneal tuberosity, at the site of the insertion of the Achilles tendon into the calcaneum
NEEDLE INSERTION: 70° insertion away from the bone
NEEDLE DEPTH: 0.3-0.5 cun

Zhao Hai 照海 (KD 6)

TRANSLATION: Luminous (Shining) Sea
TYPE: Confluent point of the Yin Qiao vessel
LOCATION: 1 cun below the tip of the medial malleolus, in the groove formed by two ligamentous bundles
NEEDLE INSERTION: 45° superior insertion
NEEDLE DEPTH: 0.3-0.5 cun
